Harlow 229-9 40 overs beat Ilford 133 all out by 96 runs

Our U16’s got their Matchplay campaign off to a winning start on Sunday with a comprehensive 96 run win over Ilford at a sunny Marigolds. On winning the toss Max had no hesitation in batting first and setting a score.

This we duly did with contributions all the way down the order, John T and Nathan set the tone with 40’s Max and Ben Yeats with 20’s and a typically boisterous 30 from Thomas. Some chancy running and big hitting got us up to a challenging 229 for 9 after our 40 overs.

I asked for discipline when we bowled….I got the opposite. LOTS of wides took the gloss off a fantastic display in the field which made Ilford earn every run. A cracking and straight opening spell from Thomas was the highlight of the first half. Then the spin of Reece and Albie stole the show with Reece taking 4 and Albie 3, ably assisted by Asad and his googlies which frankly Ilford did not have a clue about !

We bowled Ilford out in the 34th over for 133, wides being top score with 37…yes 37 !
