Local derby next season

Harlow 1st XI where relegated on the final day of the season. Regardless in the end due to other results in the league even a victory would not have been enough. Playing South Woodford whose where in the same position as Harlow with regards relegation with both teams on the same number of points, Harlow went down not with a bang but with a whimper failing to put up any resistance to the South Woodford bowling attack and then failing completely with the ball in the field. Having won the toss Harlow decided to bat knowing that a win batting first could bring 25 points for victory and a slim chance of escaping. The Harlow batsman clearly failed to turn up on a crucial match. With just four runs scored Ahmed Khawaja went for a duck, a player who is normally reliable for Harlow clean bowled. Alan Jones then came to the crease and put on 22 before he fell caught and bowled with the score at 35. Next was opener Hafiz Yawar Afzal to go for 23, the score 55-3. After this it was all downhill with wickets falling on a regular basic with little resistance with exception of number 10 batsman Andre Riddell who top scored with 25 and was last batsman to fall with the score on 123 from 46.1 overs. Captain Rehman Ahmed scored 18. Two other batsman managed double figures. A hugely disappointing performance from Harlow. Bradley Copper bowling for South Woodford finished with bowling figures of 5-36 from 16 overs. With such a low score to chase down South Woodford new they had plenty of time to get a win and a slim hope of survival themselves. Clearly they were not in the mood to hang about. They set about the task and chased down the Harlow score in just 20.3 overs for the lose of no wickets and finished on 127-0. The victory only ensured South Woodford did not finish bottom of the league but Harlow instead. Harlow now face the prospect of a local derby against Harlow Town next season in Division two following their promotion. After a promising start to the season whereby they went first six matches undefeated they then only won just one of the remaining 12 fixtures losing nine, drawing one and with one abandoned.
