Opening league fixture ends in draw

Harlow travelled to Woodford Wells in cold overcast conditions. Harlow loss the toss and were put into bat on a flat, two paced wicket. They started slow by only finding boundarys in bad balls and unable to rotate the strike. Opener Hafiz Yawar (55) was the first to go, being caught on the long off boundary by Gareth James of the bowling of Shaikh. As Hafiz departed the crease at 137 of 32 overs, he left a license to hit for the rest of the batsmen. Skipper Rehman Ahmed (14), Ahmed Khawaja (34) and Ubaid Kiani (17*) kept the score board going while providing opener Alan Jones support to go about his business. Jones batted with great maturity by putting away the bad ball and rotating strike to others who had the license. After Jones brought up his 100, he then opened up and took the game away from Woodford scoring a total 137*. The final 37 coming in 5 overs. Taking the score to 262/3 of 50 overs.

In reply, Woodford never really got away from Harlows attack and feilders staying sharp throughout the innings. Nick Baxter opened proceedings by taking the wicket of Ed Buxton, lbw for 2. Rogers (28) and Mcgee (35) rebuilt the innings and batted with caution. Mitch Howarde found the break through by removing both batsmen. Having them caught at backward point by skipper Rehman. Johnson (21) and Shah (41) then continued where the previous batsmen left of. The skipper then turned to Ross Vasani who not only found his rythm in the game but claimed wickets of both batsmen. Both caught again by Rehman, this time at mid-wicket. Baxter was reintroduced into the attack. After bowling a few tight overs he found the edge of James (5). Then pick up two more in the over, Ellison and Shakh. Leaving Woodford at 134/8 and batting out for the draw with 11 overs to go. Howarde managed to force an inside edge from the Woodford captain John Gaffney in the penultimate over of the game. The last over was blocked out by Hall and the game ended in a draw, with Woodford ending on 162/9.

Man of the match was Alan Jones for his 137 not out.
