Another tremendous weekend of cricket with our club, whatever team you watch, there
is always something ‘cricket positive’ going on at Marigolds.
For sure, the ‘spirit of Cricket’ is alive and well and the game in general looks healthy
down here in the old town.
What with the World Cup final, the 4th day against Australia, it certainly ignites interest in
our game and once again, a busy pavilion balcony of Saturday witnessed another first XI
excitement (which sadly I missed due to going the wrong way around the M25 that
afternoon) with Jason’s contribution with both bat and ball. It was also good to learn
that Rehman was getting amongst the runs. He is probably one of the most talented
cricketers we have produced and watched for many a year, esepcailly as he came up
through our colts, juniors and senior cricket, a class act.
Another ton from the opposite end of the generations with a another young prospect
for us in James Forde who scored 105 NO for the 5th XI.
My congratulation to the 4th XI, the first team this season to enjoy the best reward for their
summer contribution to Harlow cricket.
This coming Saturday is the big day to finish the season (over already, its only early
September….) I understand a coach is being organised to to take the 1st XI and supporters
down to the coast to play Westcliff. A massive reward for the winners, claiming second place
and promotion.
A little bird whispered to me that Westcliff arch rivals and very close neighbours Leigh on Sea
will be rooting for us to win!
I’m not sure what my diary allows for next weekend. I want to get down to the coast but if not,
I am sure I will be entertained once more by Rod Coldwell 2nd XI. An ‘up & down summer’ for
his team but the games I have seen are always enjoyable and give good cricketing entertainment.
A big weekend for them for sure.
The 3rd XI are biting their toenails (probably all gone on their fingers), hope all goes well
boys this Saturday.
You may have noticed, Andy Yeats ‘weekend summaries’ which are brilliant are also well
supported by some fine action pictures which are provided by our new resident photographer Aussie, he has produced some fine shots this season which will be well used during the close
season promotional newsletters for sure.
A big weekend ahead of us, good luck to all
