HARLOW WON BY 72 runs
On a rare bright dry day Harlow were asked to bat by Shenfield, who made inroads early by getting rid of Arshad and Atif with 22 on the board. Mashood and Khubaib went about repairing the damage and managed to get us over the 100 mark before Mashood played all round one. Khubaib followed soon after, leaving us 124-4. That quickly became 131-5 and we were in danger of coming up short. Jauhar and Baulcs batted with caution, keen to bat the overs and give us a score to defend. We lost our next wicket at 197 in the 47th, The rest of the innings was a clatter of wickets as we were all out with one ball to go for 210. A decent total on a wicket that was doing a bit thanks to all the rain we have had.
Shenfields reply began with great caution against the pace of Dan Whellams and the accuracy of Tyler. Tyler struck first removing the dangerous Lee Tredget with a nip backer that knocked his middle stump back. Turner-Smith was well organised and was powerful on the drive. Khubaibs accurate offies slowed his progress before he chanced his arm and was bowled by a beauty. We continued to chip away at the batters with Tyler still wheeling away from one end and getting decent reward for his straightness and guile. With overs running out it was time to ring the changes in an effort to force the victory. Faz, wicket first ball ! 2 overs to go 2 wickets still needed. Enter the returning Jauhar with his lively offies (Doctors orders)...wicket first ball ! 9 down 11 balls to go. Safe to say the number 11 had a lot of company for the rest of that over. 5th ball one turned beautifully past the outside edge to hit the top of off and pandemonium ensued, a great relief to secure the victory against a dogged opponent that were not giving their wickets away easily.
Everyone stuck to their tasks, we dropped a couple of sharp ones but took some really tasty ones. Tyler bowled 16 straight returning with 5 -52. Faz and Jauhar took 3 for none in 17 balls to win the game.
Special mention to Atif, our occasional keeper, he was tremendous, even taking a nasty lifter from Dan in the throat in his stride. Credit to the man, we've found his best fielding position ! (Thanks to Baulks for the Report)
