Third XI Title Challenge Remains on Track as 4th XI Record Big Win

Andy Yeats11 Jun 2023 - 19:22

2nd On Top but Held to Draw as 1st XI & 5th XI Defeated

It wasn't only the summer sun that heated up over the weekend as the Third XI seriously made a statement with a convincing 9 wicket win to maintain their perfect start to the season. Excellent win also for the 4th XI thanks to returning new father, Mark Quant, who blasted a hundred and took 3 wickets.

Elsewhere the Second XI dominated but late resistance ensured a frustrating draw. Sadly, the First XI are in a rut and were defeated again as were the 5th XI.

Sunday saw Mission Impossible for the First XI as they travelled to Essex Preimer League Champions, Brentford, for their 3rd Round Cup tie. A superb, attacking innings of 86 from Gul Hassan helped Harlow post a score in excess of 200 which was fantastic effort against a full Brentwood bowling attack. Sadly, defending the total proved beyond our lads but a performance they can be proud of and build on in the League games to come.

The weekend round up starts with the top of the table 3rd XI who blew away visitors Harold Wood for just 91 with all four bowlers outstanding Sunny Ali 3-39, Bilal Javed 3-25, Jake Hikmatshah 2-13 and Tyler Dobson 1-13.

Harlow chased down the total for the loss of just one wicket with Rizwan Qayyum and Ronnie Fuller both striking 37 not out.

Mark Quant (pictured) returned after the birth of his daughter (many congratulations) and proceeded to blast 108* supported by youngsters Alfie Jessey (54*), Ben Seary (42) and Bill Clark (38) as Harlow posted 276-5.

In reply their Harold Wood counterparts never threatened with stand out performances from Harris Hamid (3-3), Mark Quant (3-38) and George Jessey (2-44) to claim the full 25 points.

Amir's Second XI were on top throughout their fixture at Loughton. Batting first Harlow posted 248 and declared with John Perry making 66, Max Baulcomb 43, Abdul Munim 42, Muhammed Umar Raza 38 and Waheed Azam 28.

Despite Harlow throwing the kitchen sink at the Loughton batters they doggedly held on 8 wickets down for the draw despite a brace of wickets for Farhad Hikmatshah, Paddy Matthews and Amir Farooq.

The First XI produced a slightly improved batting performance, primarily thanks to James Forde who made 59, Tom Garner 55 and Syed Hassan 43. The total of 210-8 looked short and so it proved as Woodford Green won with 9 overs to spare losing 5 wickets (Joe Riddell claiming two of them).

The 5th XI lost to Thundridge who batted first and made 221 all out with Jack Sykes taking 3-4, Jack Fuller 2-14 and Irfan Oryakhel 2-20.

Jack Sykes, Jack Fuller, Abid Shinwari and Safi Sarajudeen all made scores between 20 and 35 but the side fell short closing on 166.
