Another season, another sunny and bright spring has arrived at Harlow Cricket Club who are looking forward to a potential promising season at their pretty cricket round at Marigolds, in the centre of Old Harlow where they have been playing since the 1880’s.
Under the guidance of a new captain in Ben Yeats expectations are on a high especially with Ben’s return to the club where he started his career as a young teenager and promising opening batsman, almost a decade ago.
Ben moved on a few years ago to play in higher divisions including the Essex Hamo Premier League where he continued to prove his undoubted abilities. But the pull of his own club and plus the prospect of being our Captain albeit at the tender age of mid- twenties he has now achieved his dreams of leading our great and historic club into a new generation.
We are also excited with the development of many youngsters following Ben’s dream, moving up into the club’s premier team following the principle ‘if they are good enough then they are old enough!’
Many of last season’s squad are still here so who knows where we hope to go this summer.
The club’s social side is booming, with a full dairy of events for both members and guests, all are welcome to join us in the coming months.
The season starts on the 18 April with pre-season friendlies and then the league gets going on the 25 April with a cup match.
Once more Harlow CC are fielding five XI’s, the 5th being the kindergarten with a mix of promising youngsters from the age of 13 along with enthusiastic elder players who also have a car to ferry the kids around especially to their ’home’ ground based in the picturesque Mole Hill Green near Takeley.
Sunday cricket is also available to watch and support, once more we host our friends from Netteswell and Burnt Mill CC. Also, a mixture of Harlow CC XI fixtures along with potentially entertaining colts cup matches.
Plus, a few mid-week matches are booked when we host two Essex CCC Over 60’s (real old fashion cricket) on the 19 May (.v. Middlesex) and 9 June (.v. Surrey). Then an all-day Wednesday match on 15 July the club will play the historic nomadic Chinghoppers CC. Finally mid-week on the 30 July when The Club Cricket Conference Under 25’s visit Marigolds to play The Sharks Academy.
Cricket themed lunches are also popular, the mid-week games especially, ideal for business entertaining and two Saturday1st XI games at the start of the season in May and then last home match 15 August. Watch out for notices for these popular events and how to book.
