Further Celebrations this Year!

190th anniversary to celebrate this summer!

After celebrating a 250th anniversary in 2024 this year brings along a collective of 190 years in some ‘shape or form!!

Three senior members of Harlow Cricket Club as a collective, make up this achievement. Some may celebrate, some will put it aside, but it is important to let the club members know of these milestones.

The big one is dear Cliff Clark who notches up his 80th birthday this year.

Many say he has been around Marigolds since the dark ages, well when he did join us black and white TV was the norm!
He came along in 1978 having recently moved into the old town, just a hundred yards or so away from the boundary wall and fell in love with cricket. Well, considering he was 33 at the time, a long overdue start to play for the first time.
He practised his bowling skills in the nets and progressed from ‘just in’ the 2nd XI to the mainstay of the 1st X1 bowling attack for many seasons.

During his club second career as our groundsman for thirty plus years, Cliff distinguished himself having won an award for his skills a couple of years ago at a ceremony held at Lords sponsored by World Cricket.

Trailing the numbers game by twenty years, our Club President Alan Howick notches up 60 years as a member of the club joining the colts in 1965.

A career in estate agency when 19 stopped his active weekend cricket for a while. He ran the Sunday X1 for a few years from around the late 1970’s. Past club job roles include Secretary (twice) Chairman (plus a short term between Chairmen in 2013) and since 2009, the Club President.

The third part of this trio is ‘Baulks’, or Simon Baulcomb our new Chairman.

Simon celebrates his 50th summer playing for the club - that is unique. Scoring a century every decade of his cricketing life, well up to his 50’s but expect one soon during his next decade. Baulks is also raising the profile of our club being the first ‘county player’ that we know of (except perhaps Frank Silcock in the 1860’s) being an over 60’s cricketer for Essex and has added two overseas tours to his name, Japan a year or so ago guesting for the Hertfordshire CCC and early this year representing a World XI touring New Zealand. Bringing Harlow Cricket Club worldwide recognition!

His contribution to the club is ‘awesome’ a word he often uses. He has taken on the roles of Secretary, Chairman in 1992/93 (following APH) and four summers as 1st XI Captain (2003/06).

He started his career at Marigolds as a ten year old under the schooling of Derrick Hills then followed on by his father Bob Baulcomb, the colts group became known as ‘Bob’s Bunnies’ which also included his younger brother Mark.

Another anniversary for the club and another milestone to enjoy.

NOTE: Picture attached shows all three playing for the Sunday XI in the 1980’s. You guess who is who!
