Amongst the close season signings include a welcome back to one of our most successful team captains for many decades, Rob Coldwell.
Rob left the club two seasons ago following a move to Thorpe Bay, Southend, not that far from Garon’s Park. Although some miles away he still travels back frequently for family reasons and after a recent visit to Marigolds late last year he knew where his cricketing heart is, he knew he was missing playing for Harlow Cricket Club.
He had a dabble for a season or so in Southend but he honestly states “I quit because my heart was elsewhere and it did not help as I was also known as the ‘Harlow bloke’, that never felt right”.
He went on the say as well “if Baulks and Whellams can still play, then why can’t I!”
Rob’s skippering success was remarkable, starting with the 4th XI from 2011 until 2017. Over seven years his team won the league title five times and denied a 6th due to a cricketing incident that cost points deduction.
In 2018 he skipped the 3rd, in 2019 the 2nd XI, then ‘retired’ and moved away.
Now he is back, and the club will be a better place for that as well.
