Tom Garner took his new look First XI squad over to Hornchurch Athletic on Saturday in pre-season action and would have been pleased to come away with a 4 wicket win.
Harlow's bowling attack made the most of the early season damp conditions to dismiss the home side for just 114. Alex Senior impressed on debut with a brace (both opposition opening batters) whilst Matt Fisk bowled a superb spell of 6 overs taking 2-20 on his first appearance at this level.
In reply, Harlow lost early wickets but a fine 58 not out from Max Baulcomb (who reached 2000 career league runs last season) steadied the ship with Alex also showing some signs of being capable with the willow as well as the new ball.
We wish Hornchurch all the best for the 2023 season. They were desperately unlucky to be relegated to Division 4 by the barest of margins - a fate they did not deserve.
Fingers crossed groundsman Cliff Clark can weave his magic and defy the elements to enable the First XI to start competitive action at Marigolds next weekend with a home match against Redbridge in the Cup.
(Max my apologies - I think we really need a new file photograph with eyes open!)
