Mark Quant Hits Highest Total of the Season

Latest in our daily stats reports is the 2022 highest individual innings at Harlow CC.

Leading the way in 2022 was Mark Quant with a staggering 154 not out made for the 4th XI against Buckhurst Hill 3rd's. Mark had taken the decision that week to drop down to the 4th XI from the 2's having found that a persistent shoulder injury prevented him from bowling at the level he would wish. For added incentive, Mark found himself facing his former club and clearly he felt he had a point to prove to them. The hugely popular club man had been frustrated at his lack of runs since arriving at Harlow and believed he hadn't done himself justice with the bat but he put that right on a boiling June afternoon.

Despite early wickets Quanty was straight onto the attack, batting at four, and subjected the home side to a barrage of boundary shots. His innings of 121 balls included an incredible 22 fours and four sixes. It helped Harlow reach a huge 306-6 declared but almost unbelievably it transpired not to be enough at Buckhurst Hill chased the total down with two overs to spare. The defeat could not take the gloss of Mark's supreme innings that rightly holds the place as our highest of the 2022 season. This innings set the tone for Mark to make several big innings for the 4th XI that played a significant part in their survival from relegation.

In second place was First XI opener Ben Yeats. Ben carried his bat in the time game at Marigolds against Newham making 140 not out in a total of 294-3. The innings of high class was one of constant acceleration with Ben putting the bowling to the sword in the final overs including personally taking 22 from the final six balls. The innings lasted 159 balls and included 17 fours and a six into Chippingfield.

The final of our featured innings was that that of third placed Chris Whitworth. Chris took apart the bowling of league champions Springfield on the final day of the season. He brought his century up before the 25 over drinks break. His second fifty came from just 23 balls. The innings of just 93 balls included 16 fours and four maximums and along with opening partner Ben they added 194 for the first wicket before Chris fell for a magnificent 118. Chris' innings went a long way to Harlow defeating a side that only lost twice all season and in doing so clinched a final fourth placed finish for his side.
