Westcliff on Sea v Harlow Part 1 as the 2nd XI face promotion clash whilst 4th XI could achieve promotion

What a fascinating season 2019 is proving to be and this weekend sees no let up in fixtures of a pivotal nature for almost all our sides.

Without doubt the game of the day is the 2's visit to Westcliff on Sea. Rob Coldwell's side sit in second place in the league table with a 10 point advantage over the Southend based side. Unfortunately, playing for a draw to maintain the status quo is not really an option with Gidea Park and Romford sat a mere addition point behind Westcliff.

Rob takes a team packed with experience for the season defining fixture. Having lost the two leading run scorers from the victory last weekend, with Charlie Coleman (87) and Ben Yeats (40) both returning to the First XI, he has brought in Iain Nuttall after a run of scores for 3rd and 4th XI's and Amir Farooq.

The side looks especially strong in the bowling department and certainly bats a long way down the order but without doubt the loss of the prolific Syed Hassan (also in the First XI) and talented spinning all-rounder Zabi Hakimi (abroad) will be hard to replace. If there is one thing this team does have it is bags of team spirit and if there is one person at the club who knows how to win a promotion its the skipper himself. Rarely a season goes by without Rob leading a side to a higher division but if he achieves it this year it might just be his most satisfying achievement to date.

The 4th XI go into the weekend in a wonderful position despite an unexpected poor showing last Saturday. Rizwan's side have a huge 41 point lead on the side sat behind them in third place meaning the 4's just need to secure 11 points over the next fortnight to be promoted to Third XI Division 2, a superb achievement for a 4th XI. The boys are on their travels again, this week to Gidea Park and Romford 3rd's, and will be going all out to go up in style with a victory.

After last weeks Great Escape at Leigh on Sea, recovering from 11-5 to beat the top of the table opponents, the First XI host bottom of the table West Essex. Clearly, only a good win will do for Ryan's side and he has an interesting tactical dilemma should he win the toss. Jones (injured ankle) and Monger (abroad) drop out the side replaced by Coleman and Yeats.

The 3rd XI are on a run of defeats that has seen them slide slowly towards the foot of the table. All margin for error has gone now for Faisal's side only just above the relegation zone by 3 points. One win could be enough to save the situation as the bottom half of the table is incredibly tight. We host Harold Wood, not out of danger themselves, but with Loughton playing Woodford Wells I fear that if we are unable to get that elusive victory the 3's are likely to find themselves going into the final weekend of the season in the drop zone.

The only side who are in mid table with the BBQ on and their feet up are the young Fifth XI. They travel to Hawks but despite only one win in the last five games the predominately Colts represented side had such a good start to their campaign they can enjoy their cricket without fear of finishing near the bottom.

Good luck to all of the sides. If ever there was a weekend for a clean sweep of victories this is it.
