Harlow kicked off their season in dissapointing fashion losing to Broxbourne by 148 runs.

In what is the traditional season opener for Harlow, the first team fixture was the only one played as the other games fell victim to the British weather.

After winning the toss and inviting Broxbourne to bat, Harlow's seam bowlers struggled to find their lengths and were unable to capitalise on the bowler friendly conditions. Broxbourne's openers both passed 50 before Sulivan (56) retired leaving the score at 120-0.

Spinners Ross Vasani and Jake Messenger reduced the run rate in the middle overs before Messenger was forced off the field due to a shoulder injury he sustained whilst fielding. This opened the door for part-time spinner Ubaid Kiani and he took his chance by removing Gaggon for 76 in what was he first of 5 wickets. Kiani (5-25) bowled with great control and deceived the Broxbourne batters with his varying pace and excellent googly which, accounted for Willis (16) in an early "ball of the season" contender.

Unfortunately the damage had been before hand and despite some positive death bowling from Waheed, Broxbourne finished on a slow and turning pitch with a very competitive 228-5 from their 40 overs.

Harlow started positively with the bat and Kiani (20) picked up where he left off with the ball and looked to attack the Broxbourne openers from the off-set. When Zabi Hakimi fell for 5, this triggered a huge collapse and Harlow were never able to recover from.

Only Andre Riddell (28) was the other batter to pass double figures as Harlow were bowled out for 80.

A disappointing start to the season where Harlow failed in all 3 disciplines and will need a big response in the coming weeks as they prepare to meet Premier League side Hadleigh and Thundersley in the League cup in 3 weeks time.

Harlow next face Sawbridgeworth in a local derby at Town Fields and will be bolstered by the return of regular captain Rahman Ahmed and all rounders Luke Monger and Ant Webb.
